Tesla Asked Texas Drivers to Avoid Charging During Record Heat Wave
The Texas power grid is a hot mess, so Tesla encouraged EV owners to help by charging at certain times.
Tesla sent over-the-air (OTA) notifications to drivers in Texas asking owners to avoid charging their EVs during peak hours of energy use. The request appeared on Tesla dashboards amid a record-setting heat wave that strained the Texas power grid, and prompted its operator, ERCOT, to warn of possible blackouts.
As a response to the unprecedented power demand during the extreme heat, Tesla and ERCOT asked drivers and residents in Texas to conserve electricity by not charging their EVs from the afternoon through the evening and by turning up their thermostats at home.
ERCOT asked businesses and residents to save energy from 2-8pm, then braced for the power demand. And the power grid scraped by this time, managing to prevent major outages thanks to voluntary cutbacks in power use, according to Reuters. Industrial users were among those volunteers that helped the power grid avoid collapse; even bitcoin and other crypto miners pitched in.
Tesla drivers in Texas reported seeing the peak hour prompts, and one owner in Austin said that Tesla offered supercharger rates up to 50 percent off for drivers who were willing to wait until after 8pm to charge their EVs.
The Past few days I’ve been thinking about the anniversary of the loss of my dad back in 2015. It was a pure blessing to take care of him and his final living years. I wanted to show you some of my trees. I’m growing. We have a peach tree, a mango tree, a low quad tree and an avocado tree. And the flower box I’m growing my grape vines which are in their infancy and they’re finishing up their season.
Good morning 😃 the pool is 79 now and it should be 80 in a couple hours so I will be going swimming today. This is probably going to be my last week of swimming because I believe we’re gonna be heading into fall temperatures which bring my pool temperature down. I definitely want to get a pool heater.
I will have less of a presence on The Torrid Tribe Community. We have very little activity here. This is a sign to me that members have found other social media resources that they are spending more time in. I am happy to see less censorship on social media in general. I started The Torrid Tribe 4 years ago when we were in a state of censorship and lockdowns. It was a difficult time and this was a haven and sanctuary for so many.
I will be lightly posting things here to give you all content to see. This community will always be open to everyone and will resurrect to its full capacity if subscribers show they want it fully operational again with full time administration.
Thank you for being a part of this community. Sending each of you hugs.
