House Republicans cry foul as Speaker Hortman cuts off debate over a paid leave tax hike
By Hank Long – May 16, 2024
Can anything good happen after midnight? That adage was tested in both legislative chambers at the Minnesota Capitol in the early hours of Thursday morning.
As state lawmakers run out of hours in the remaining three days of session to tackle supplemental budget spending, bonding legislation and a few DFL signature policy bills that are drawing Republican ire, chaos broke out on the House floor just after midnight Thursday.
Boisterous calls for House Speaker Melissa Hortman, DFL-Brooklyn Park, to recognize Republicans wishing to speak bellowed through the chamber after the top-ranking Democrat abruptly cut off a lengthy debate over a bill that would increase the payroll taxes on a new state-managed paid leave program that has yet to be implemented.
The Past few days I’ve been thinking about the anniversary of the loss of my dad back in 2015. It was a pure blessing to take care of him and his final living years. I wanted to show you some of my trees. I’m growing. We have a peach tree, a mango tree, a low quad tree and an avocado tree. And the flower box I’m growing my grape vines which are in their infancy and they’re finishing up their season.
Good morning 😃 the pool is 79 now and it should be 80 in a couple hours so I will be going swimming today. This is probably going to be my last week of swimming because I believe we’re gonna be heading into fall temperatures which bring my pool temperature down. I definitely want to get a pool heater.
I will have less of a presence on The Torrid Tribe Community. We have very little activity here. This is a sign to me that members have found other social media resources that they are spending more time in. I am happy to see less censorship on social media in general. I started The Torrid Tribe 4 years ago when we were in a state of censorship and lockdowns. It was a difficult time and this was a haven and sanctuary for so many.
I will be lightly posting things here to give you all content to see. This community will always be open to everyone and will resurrect to its full capacity if subscribers show they want it fully operational again with full time administration.
Thank you for being a part of this community. Sending each of you hugs.
