An employee at a Build-A-Bear Workshop in Tukwila, WA, declined a customer's request to include Charlie Kirk's name on a bear's birth certificate.
A 16-year-old girl, Evi McCormick, simply wanted to honor Charlie Kirk, by naming a stuffed bear after him. Instead of encouraging self-expression and creativity, a store manager SHUT HER DOWN and refused to print his name on the birth certificate! Evi, the customer who made the request, reported that the employee responded with "We're not doing this" before scrunching up the certificate and discarding it. This is utterly ridiculous!
Charlie Kirk, a conservative voice and founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically assassinated last month, and showing respect for such a monumental figure should be celebrated, not suppressed! Instead of fostering an environment of inclusion and respect for all beliefs, Build-A-Bear decided to let political bias rule their store. This is not just an isolated incident; it's a symptom of a growing trend where conservative voices are silenced, even in a children’s toy store!
Evi's mother called the corporate office, and after a lengthy conversation, they offered a meager $20 gift card for this abhorrent treatment! Thankfully, they’ve promised to retrain staff, but will it really change the culture of intolerance?
I will have less of a presence on The Torrid Tribe Community. We have very little activity here. This is a sign to me that members have found other social media resources that they are spending more time in. I am happy to see less censorship on social media in general. I started The Torrid Tribe 4 years ago when we were in a state of censorship and lockdowns. It was a difficult time and this was a haven and sanctuary for so many.
I will be lightly posting things here to give you all content to see. This community will always be open to everyone and will resurrect to its full capacity if subscribers show they want it fully operational again with full time administration.
Thank you for being a part of this community. Sending each of you hugs.
