New York City officials are considering leasing the hidden rooms within the Brooklyn Bridge to generate more revenue for the city as it faces a large budget deficit.

The iconic bridge contains roughly 13,000 square feet of hidden space, previously used for art shows but unused since 2001. While it is currently being used to park city-owned vehicles, City Hall is now exploring renting the rooms to the public.

A report by The New York Post noted that at average Manhattan rental rates, the city could earn around $17 million a year if the space were fully leased, potentially boosting city revenue by fiscal year 2027.

The proposal comes amid a contentious budget debate over socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s $127 billion preliminary Fiscal 2027 plan. The plan relied on a 9.5 percent property tax increase, projected to raise $3.7 billion, $1.2 billion in reserve draws, and cuts to certain city services. Mamdani’s proposals were aimed at closing a $4.7 billion gap.

Council members, however, rejected major aspects of the budget, warning that the plan would shift the burden to homeowners, renters, and small businesses.

“We cannot in good conscience fund the City’s needs on the backs of homeowners or renters, by digging into emergency reserves, or by cutting essential programs,” said Speaker Julie Menin. She outlined an alternative plan that identifies $6 billion in resources over fiscal years 2026 and 2027 without raising taxes or cutting essential services.

According to The New York Post, Mamdani ally and Democratic strategist Chris Sosa noted that the mayor and Menin have differing approaches.

“Mayor Mamdani and Speaker Menin have fundamentally different approaches to politics that exist beyond ideology,” he said. “Menin is cautious and builds a lot of risk mitigation into her legislative approach, which includes the budget. That approach is read by the left as protection of a broken status quo. Of a broken status quo that privileges the rich

I will have less of a presence on The Torrid Tribe Community. We have very little activity here. This is a sign to me that members have found other social media resources that they are spending more time in. I am happy to see less censorship on social media in general. I started The Torrid Tribe 4 years ago when we were in a state of censorship and lockdowns. It was a difficult time and this was a haven and sanctuary for so many.

I will be lightly posting things here to give you all content to see. This community will always be open to everyone and will resurrect to its full capacity if subscribers show they want it fully operational again with full time administration.

Thank you for being a part of this community. Sending each of you hugs.
